Obituary of James P Duffy

James Patrick Duffy peacefully passed away in the arms of his wife of 42 years Mary E. Duffy (nee Conway) at their home in Poinciana, Florida on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. He leaves behind his son James J. Duffy, daughter-in-law Louise Jordan, daughter Barbara M. Tomasello, son-in-law David Tomasello, and son William M. Duffy. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Lorelei, Andreas, and Patrick, his brother Michael and sister Patricia. Born to Edna F. Stokes and Joseph J. Duffy in New York City, the fourth of six children, Jim grew up to be a model citizen, joining the United States Air Force in 1967. He served in Greenland during the Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge in 1972. He completed his BA at Hunter College in New York City, while working for the US Postal Service, and went on to complete his Masters in Education at the University of North Dakota and became a Counselor. Once back in New York he went to work for the VA and opened the Vietnam Veterans Outreach Center in Brooklyn. Following that he worked for the General Services Administration, and then the Federal Aviation Administration. On retirement he moved to Florida where he continued to work as a counselor, played softball, played poker, and took up pickleball . He enjoyed the games, but truly appreciated the camaraderie and friendships he formed within the community. Jim was a remarkable person who cared for his family, friends, and had a relentless loyalty to the NY Mets. He will be sorely missed by those who loved and knew him.
